Here's a simple tip:

If your first step when preparing a slide presentation is to open up Powerpoint...

STOP IT!

Prepare your slides as LATE in the preparation process as possible.

That way, you'll get clear on the overall flow / story / audience journey FIRST.

If you get too bogged down in slide development too early, you'll end up being taken hostage by them.

And that's not nice - for you or your audience.
